A man was found shot and stabbed to death Tuesday morning in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire at 10:14 a.m. found 26-year-old David L. Roman with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 5500 block of West Thomas, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Roman, who lived in the same neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

An autopsy Wednesday found Roman died of the gunshot wound, with multiple stab wounds listed as a secondary cause of death, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Area North detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
