A South Side man is facing felony charges after prosecutors say he robbed a North Side T-Mobile store at gunpoint then led officers on a chase.

Cook County Associate Judge Mary C. Marubio ordered Tyree Ruth, 46, held with no bail at his initial court appearance Sunday as he faces three counts of felony armed robbery.

About 6 p.m. Friday, Ruth and another man walked into the T-Mobile store at 1958 W. Irving Park Road, demanding cash from three employees as they held them at gunpoint with a blue steel handgun, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The pair made off with 40 cell phones and more than $700 in cash as they got into a white 2006 Chrysler 300 and drove away, prosecutors said.

Ruth, who had stolen $519 from one employee and $250 from another, jumped out of the car in the 3000 block of North Broadway as Chicago Police chased the Chrysler, prosecutors said. Officers caught up to Ruth on foot and arrested him, court documents show. He had about $270 and a handgun.

The other man kept driving south on Lake Shore Drive, eventually exiting at Michigan Avenue before causing a River North crash at the intersection of LaSalle and Kinzie streets, police said. He wasn’t caught.

No injuries were reported.

Ruth, of the Parkway Gardens neighborhood, is next scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
