A Chicago woman was killed and three other people were wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the parking lot of a bar in northwest suburban Elgin.
Officers responded at 12:23 a.m. to D Hangout Bar and Grill, 550 S. McLean Blvd., for a call of a shooting in the parking lot, according to Elgin police.
The incident started as a “verbal altercation” outside the bar involving several people, police said.
Three women were found suffering from gunshot wounds were taken to hospitals, according to police. A man who was also wounded in the shooting took himself to a hospital.
One of the women shot, identified as 25-year-old Sharpie Smith-Tate, was pronounced dead at 3:07 a.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, according to police and the Kane County coroner’s office. She lived in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
An autopsy Monday indicated she died of multiple gunshot wounds, but toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensics lab for testing, the coroner’s office said.
Two of the others who were wounded have since been treated and released, while the third was still hospitalized Tuesday, police said. Their exact ages have not been released, but police said all were between 21 and 40 years old.
