A woman was airlifted to a hospital after she was injured in a crash Thursday afternoon on I-294 near north suburban Northbrook.

Kimberly Huguelet, 30, of Orland Park, was driving a gray Toyota SUV southbound on I-294 near Willow Road when she left the roadway and struck the rear of a semitrailer that was parked off the road with its emergency hazard lights on at 2:58 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.

She suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was taken by Flight for Life to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said.

The driver of the semitrailer, 41-year-old Dariusz Prochniak of Plainfield, was not injured in the crash, police said.

Lanes were closed on the tollway in both directions until about 4:30 p.m. The ramp from southbound I-294 to Willow Road was closed longer for further investigation. It had reopened as of about 10 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
