Already an awards-season heavyweight, Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” made a big move toward Oscar glory Monday morning, leading the Golden Globe Awards field with six nominations.
The tear-jerking Netflix divorce film is up for best drama as well as best dramatic actor and actress at the 77th annual Golden Globes. The film will compete for the top prize alongside gangster epic “The Irishman” (which picked up five nominations), World War I thriller “1917,” papal dramedy “The Two Popes” and psychological villain tale “Joker.”
Up for best comedy/musical are Taika Waititi’s World War II satire “Jojo Rabbit,” Quentin Tarantino’s 1960s fantasy “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (which snagged five total nominations), murder mystery “Knives Out,” Elton John biopic “Rocketman” and the Eddie Murphy period comedy ”Dolemite Is My Name.”

“Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix heads up the best dramatic actor category, which includes Adam Driver (“Marriage Story”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), Jonathan Pryce (“The Two Popes”) and Christian Bale (“Ford v Ferrari”). The comedy actor contingent includes Murphy, Leonardo DiCaprio (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”), Taron Egerton (“Rocketman”), Daniel Craig (“Knives Out”) and Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”).
Renee Zellweger, who plays Judy Garland in the biopic “Judy,” leads the crop of best drama actresses along with Scarlett Johansson (“Marriage Story”), Saoirse Ronan (“Little Women”) and Charlize Theron (“Bombshell”), Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet”). “The Farewell” star Awkwafina is nominated for comedy actress with Beanie Feldstein (“Booksmart”), Ana de Armas (“Knives Out”), Emma Thompson (“Late Night”) and Cate Blanchett (“Where Did You Go, Bernadette?”).
Jennifer Lopez (“Hustlers”) and Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) will tussle for best supporting actress against Margot Robbie (“Bombshell”), Annette Bening (“The Report”) and Kathy Bates (“Richard Jewell).”
”Irishman” star Al Pacino vies for best supporting actor against Waititi (“Jojo Rabbit”), Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”), Tom Hanks (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”) and Anthony Hopkins (“The Two Popes”).
Ricky Gervais will host the Globes for the fifth time on Jan. 5. Tom Hanks will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award. The Carol Burnett Award will go to Ellen DeGeneres.
