A man was hit and killed by a Metra Union Pacific North train Monday in north suburban Highwood.

The incident happened about 10:30 p.m. near Green Bay Road and Washington Avenue just past the Highwood station, a Metra spokesperson confirmed.

The Lake County coroner’s office said the death appears to have been a suicide. The man has not been identified.

Trains are now operating on schedule.
