BOURBONNAIS — Jay Cutler’s route-running was so bad that Eddie Royal considered his other options.

At least, that’s what the veteran receiver laughingly said about a trick play on the final day of training camp at Olivet Nazarene University that sent fans into an uproar.

“It could use a little bit of work,” Royal said Sunday. “In the walk-through, I had to pass up on him and take my second read. But it all worked out in practice.”

It wasn’t the first creative play from camp, but it definitely stood out for who was involved.

“There was some creativity,” coach John Fox said when asked about Cutler and the play. “Hopefully, we didn’t get it on some web camera like New England got theirs on. A little bit of an element of surprise.”
