After injury scare, Bears’ Eddie Jackson gets his TD

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Bears safety Eddie Jackson picked up the fumble, ran toward the end zone and spotted the penalty flag.

Of course there was a flag, he thought — the Bears safety had scored two defensive touchdowns earlier this year that were canceled out by penalties. After officials huddled in the fourth quarter Monday night, though, they announced a hold on Rams tight end Johnny Mundt.

Jackson had his touchdown, which brought the Bears within 14 points — the same score as the eventual 24-10 final deficit at SoFi Stadium. Jackson praised outside linebacker Robert Quinn, who forced the ball out of the receiver Robert Woods’ hands.

“You just see the ball on the ground there, just take the time to scoop it up — end zone’s right there,” Jackson said. “Going in, you see the flag and you’re like, ‘Oh my God. Just preparing for the worst, hoping for the best’-type of situation. I was happy when it stood, though.”

A quarter earlier, Jackson gave the Bears a scare. He leapt on a blitz, grabbed at his left knee as he landed and crumbled to the ground. It felt like a sting at first, he said, but then he started to move his leg. Bears doctors performed a basic test to see whether he tore the anterior cruciate ligament, but Jackson knew he didn’t — he went through that injury in 2014 at Alabama, and knew what it felt like.

“I knew it wasn’t nothing too bad,” he said. “I’ve been through the ACL. I’m fine. I’m feeling good. It was just a little scare. But I knew it wasn’t nothing too serious and it started to calm down, I started to feel much better.”
