In 2010, after winning the Stanley Cup, the Blackhawks traded Dustin Byfuglien to the Atlanta Thrashers because Byfuglien wanted too much money as a free agent.

Before the Blackhawks traded Byfuglien, actor and Chicago native Vince Vaughn told the former Blackhawks defenseman to not chase the money and win Stanley Cups with Chicago.

Byfuglien didn’t listen to Vaughn, and he was shipped to Atlanta.

The same situation happened to former Blackhawks left wing Brandon Saad.

Saad and the Blackhawks were too far apart on a contract, and Chicago shipped him to the Columbus Blue Jackets for three players and a draft pick.

Saad said he was “a little shocked” by the trade, but he’ll make more money with the Blue Jackets.
