A man was shot to death Wednesday in South Chicago.

Alex Wilson, 23, was standing on the sidewalk at 1:46 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Kingston Avenue when someone walked up, pulled out a handgun and started shooting, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Wilson was shot in the head, chest, left wrist and right middle finger, authorities said. He was taken to Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Wilson lived in the same neighborhood where he was shot.

An autopsy released Thursday found he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
