Trio of robbers beats victims, steals backpacks in Hyde Park: police

A woman initiated the attack in two of the three robberies, police said.

A group of three people has been violently robbing people of their backpacks in the South Side Hyde Park neighborhood.

The trio struck three times on Tuesday night into early Wednesday, Chicago police said. In each instance they grabbed the victim’s backpack and then struck and beat them.

In two of the robberies, a woman initiated the attack, police said.

The incidents happened:

  • about 1:15 a.m. June 12 in the 5700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue;
  • about 12:50 a.m. June 12 in the 5600 block of South Blackstone Avenue; and
  • about 11:50 p.m. June 11 in the 5400 block of South Greenwood Avenue.
