An 18-year-old man was shot to death Monday in the East Side neighborhood, according to police.

Dejuan A. Curry was standing on the street in the 10600 block of South Avenue O about 9 p.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he was shot, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was struck in the abdomen and leg, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. An autopsy released Tuesday found he died from his gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.

Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation, police said.
