A 40-year-old man was found fatally shot Sunday in Back of the Yards on the South Side.

Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert about 8:56 p.m. found Ronnie L. Peterson lying on the ground in the 700 block of West 50th Street with gunshot wounds to the face and leg, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Peterson was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:53 p.m., authorities said. Autopsy results released Monday found he died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled his death a homicide.

There are currently no witnesses to the shooting, and no one is in custody, police said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
