A convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Friday in the West Loop.

The male suspect pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded he open the register at 2:58 a.m. inside the store in the 500 block of West Lake Street, according to Chicago police.

A 7-Eleven is located in that block at 567 W. Lake St.

The suspect ran with cash and cigarettes, police said. He got into the passenger side of a white SUV, which drove off.

The clerk was unable to see the SUV’s driver, police said. No injuries were reported.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
