A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday in Back of the Yards on the South Side.

He was crossing the street about 8:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Garfield Boulevard when two males approached him and fired multiple shots, striking him twice in the chest, Chicago police said.

Responding officers found him lying unresponsive in the street, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

He was identified as William Warlam Rodney Taylor, an autopsy conducted confirmed he died of multiple gunshot wounds, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Area South detectives are investigating.
