Two people wounded in a drive-by Wednesday in University Village drove onto the Dan Ryan Expressway and then crashed on the South Side.

A man and woman, both 23, were shot about 10:40 p.m. as they sat in a car in the 1300 block of South Halsted Street, Chicago police said.

Someone in a passing car fired shots and struck the woman in the head and the man in the knee and arm, police said.

They drove onto the Dan Ryan Expressway, and were taken taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. The woman was in critical condition; the man was in good condition.

Media reports showed that the pair crashed near 47th Street before receiving medical attention.

Illinois State Police referred questions on the shooting to Chicago police.
