Expansion is the dominant theme as Six Flags Great America prepares to re-open its gates this late-September weekend for the 24th edition of Fright Fest, the Halloween-themed ritual that originally took place over four weekends in October.

For 2014, the festival is “starting in September and ending in November — six weekends, the longest we’ve ever run it,” said John Krajnak, the amusement park’s marketing director.
