Man struck and killed by box truck in Arlington Heights

A man was struck and killed by a box truck Saturday evening in Arlington Heights, police said.

About 6 p.m., a large box truck was traveling northwest in the 1300 block of East Rand Road when it hit a man who was crossing the street, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police. There was no crosswalk in the immediate area, police said.

When paramedics arrived, the man was found unresponsive with significant traumatic injuries and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Nick Gardanov, 60, of Arlington Heights. An autopsy ruled his death an accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
