Man charged with shooting during Humboldt Park argument

A man has been charged with shooting another man during an argument Friday evening in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Derrick Hawkins, 23, faces felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and being an armed habitual criminal, according to Chicago Police. He also faces four misdemeanor counts of simple assault and one misdemeanor count of battery causing bodily harm.

Hawkins and a 26-year-old man were involved a dispute about 8 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Division when shots were exchanged, police said.

Hawkins was shot in the left hand and the other man was shot in the right hand, police said. Both were taken to hospitals in good condition.

A weapon was recovered, police said.

Hawkins, a Humboldt Park resident, was ordered held without bond Sunday at the Cook County Jail, according to police and Cook County sheriff’s records. He is next scheduled to appear in court Friday.
