WASHINGTON–The Obama 2012 team is selling mugs and t-shirts with Obama’s long form birth certificate, fund-raising off the release of a book by Jerome Corsi raising questions about whether the document is real. If the “birthers” will never believe Obama was born in the U.S. the Obama re-election campaign figures it may as well make some money off of them.
Obama 2012 deputy campaign manager Julianna Smoot said in an e-mail Wednesday morning, “There’s really no way to make this stuff completely go away. The only thing we can do is laugh at it — and make sure as many other people as possible are in on the joke.” With that, she offered a “limited edition” Obama birth certificate mug to folks who contribute at least $15 to the campaign. One side of the mug has the long form certificate, the other a picture of Obama with the words “Made in the USA.” The t-shirt version goes for a $30 donation.
Corsi’s new book is titled “Where’s the Birth Certificate? The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President” and his publisher said in a press release that he has found flaws in the long form certificate Obama released after Donald Trump revived the “birther” issue in his short exploratory GOP White House 2012 run.
Smoot said of Corsi, his “work is a greatest-hits reel of delusions, ranging from 9/11 conspiracies to claiming that there is an infinite supply of oil in the Earth’s core. In 2008, he published a book about Barack Obama claiming, among other things, that he (a) is a secret Muslim; (b) is secretly anti-military; (c) secretly dealt drugs; and (d) secretly supported terrorist actions when he was eight years old. So many secrets!
