Wauconda man killed in northwest suburban crash

(BARRINGTON) A man was killed in a head-on crash Monday morning in northwest suburban Barrington.

Gregg Zuraski, 47, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu northbound in the 100 block of South Ela Road about 8:10 a.m. when he swerved into the southbound lanes and struck a 2004 Ford F-250 pickup head-on, according to Sophia Ansari, spokeswoman for the Cook County sheriff’s office.

Zuraski, of the 400 block of East Libert Street in Wauconda, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver of the pickup was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released, Ansari said.

An autopsy Tuesday found Zuraski died of multiple injuries from the crash and his death was ruled an accident.

Ansari said it’s not yet known why Zuraski swerved into oncoming traffic, but there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

No charges or citations have been filed, she said. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
