The Republican Senate leadership is going all out to assist Kirk, who is one of the Democrats top 2016 targets.

Last month in Washington, McConnell, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas; Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo.; Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.; and Sen. John Thune, R-S.D. were the hosts of a reception for Kirk where the prices ranged from $2,500 to $500.

So far, one Democrat is in the 2016 race, Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill.

The Illinois 2016 Senate contest is expected to cost tens of millions of dollars.
