A fire broke out at an abandoned lumber yard in northwest suburban Elgin on Monday afternoon.

Crews responded about 3:30 pm. to the heavily-involved blaze at the lumber storage at 20 Jefferson Ave., according to a statement from the Elgin Fire Department.

It took about half an hour to bring the fire under control, fire officials said. No one was hurt.

The heat generated by the fire damaged a car parked in a driveway next door, with repairs estimated to cost $5,000, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
