A man was killed and another was critically wounded in a shooting last week in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

About 11:30 a.m. Jan. 11, 33-year-old Uriah Hughes and a 26-year-old man were getting into a vehicle in the 5300 block of West Race when they heard gunfire and were shot, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hughes suffered a gunshot wound to his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died, authorities said.

The younger man was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with a gunshot wound to his back, police said. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

No one was in custody as Area North detectives were investigating.
