Motorcyclist killed in Kennedy Expressway crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash late Sunday on the Kennedy Expressway on the Northwest Side.

A group of motorcyclists were “driving recklessly” and speeding north on I-90 near Kimball Avenue about 9:40 p.m. when a white Suzuki motorcycle sideswiped a blue Yamaha motorcycle, according to Illinois State Police.

The Yamaha motorcycle then rear-ended a gray 2017 Porsche, police said. A 2006 Honda also was damaged by debris from the crash.

The man driving the Suzuki motorcycle, identified as 22-year-old Salaam Solano, was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene at 10:07 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Solano, who lived in northwest suburban Des Plaines, was the only person on the bike.

An autopsy conducted Monday found Solana died from multiple injuries related to the crash, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

The driver of the Yamaha motorcycle, a 24-year-old Chicago man, was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A 54-year-old woman who was in the SUV was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Community First Medical Center, according to the fire department.

All outbound lanes of the expressway were closed to traffic in the area until about 2:45 a.m., police said. There is no indication drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
