8 Halloween races to run in the Chicago area this weekend

Feel the crispness of the autumn air that greets the morning sun and be a part of Halloween races happening this weekend in Chicago and various Illinois suburbs. This is the time to enjoy outdoors while the good weather lasts.

Here’s a list of races starting from 5K all the way to half marathons that you can be sure to have a frighteningly fun time with family and friends. Don’t forget to dress up in your Halloween costume and be sure to take a practice run in it.

  1.   PUMPKINS IN THE PARK – Kid’s race and 5K

Get in that Halloween spirit with your whole family as this race treats your little ones to a costume parade and you get to run through the beautiful Lincoln Park in your wacky costume. Various activities like pumpkin decorations, pie-eating competition are lined up to allow your family and friends to have a good time.

  1.   Chicago Monster Dash – 5K, 10K and Half marathon

Keep your fitness up and have fun at the Chicago Monster dash. Race distances range from a 5k  to half marathon and enjoy the great (hopefully comfortable in your halloween costume) run along the picture perfect finish around Lake Michigan.

There’s costume contest too, be prepared to show your funny and creative side.

Saturday, 25th of October, Orland Park, IL.

Organized by the American Cancer Society for an eventful day of family-friendly parties, costume contests and need we mention about food. The route will circle around the beautiful Centennial park and benefits from race for the cancer society.

  1.   Trick or Trot 5K and  Little Devil Dash 1K.

Saturday, 25th of October, Villa Park, IL.

The Junior Women’s Club are organizing this run/walk in their second consecutive year for a fun family festivity. An event which caters to fun for all age group is definitely going down in calendars.


  1.   Trick or Treat Trot

Sunday, 26th of October, Evanston, IL.

A morning where you see a rush of creative costumes and big smiles is one you don’t want to miss. Presented by the NorthShore University HealthSystem, this race promises fun from a kids race to a 6K for adults.


  1.      13th Annual – Trick or Treat trot, 5k Run & Walk

Sunday, 26th of October, Elmhurst, IL

Run for a good cause with the One Small Voice Foundation’s initiative for an exciting day of fundraising at their annual 5K walk and run. All profits from this race will benefit hydrocephalus research being conducted at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.


  1.   Halloween Hustle 5K

Saturday,  October 25th, Palatine, IL

Hustle and bustle amongst thousands of runners for this annual halloween race that runs through the historic downtown Palatine. Kids and adults alike receive goody bags and t-shirts, as this is a race you want to remember.

P.S. Dogs are allowed at the venue, definitely a fun hustle to be a part of.


  1.   Angels against Abuse 5K

Saturday, October 25th, Sherwood, IL

This is the 6th annual 5K walk and run by Guardian angel community services. This year’s run has been modified for the halloween season, so get creative with outfits and come out to support a great cause to end domestic violence.
