A man was fatally shot early Sunday in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Joel Planas, 34, was involved in a fight with another male at 12:52 a.m. on a sidewalk in the 3100 block of West Irving Park Road when the person he was fighting pulled out a gun and fired shots striking him in the abdomen, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Planas was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:59 a.m., police said. He lived in the 2100 block of North Stave Street.
