A woman found dead in a vehicle Monday night in southwest suburban Plainfield committed suicide.

The 44-year-old woman was found slumped over the steering wheel in a vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road, according to a statement from Plainfield police.

She was taken to Copley Hospital in Aurora, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The Kane County coroner’s office determined she died of a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was ruled a suicide.
