Gov. Rauner unhurt in Loop crash involving motorcade

Gov. Bruce Rauner’s vehicle was hit by a car Wednesday morning in a Loop crash involving the governor’s motorcade.

Rauner was not hurt when the car spun out after colliding with another car and struck his vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.

The motorcade was westbound on Randolph and stopped at a red light at Michigan Avenue when two other vehicles collided in the intersection, according to a statement from state police.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash slid across the intersection and struck the vehicle containing Rauner and state police officers, then went on to hit a fourth vehicle, the statement said.

Rauner was not injured, and no state police officers were hurt, the statement said. Three other people were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The State Police’s Executive Protection Unit was “completing a routine movement” with the governor at the time of the crash, police said.

Chicago Police also responded to the collision.
