Much was said and debated about the way the Cubs handled Kris Bryant at the start of the season. Despite that argument being months old, one former Cubs player had an interesting take.
Former Cubs infielder and fan favorite, Ryan Theriot, tweeted out his feelings on how the Cubs handled Bryant.

The main reason the Cubs held off on bringing Bryant up in the first month was to hang on to an extra year of team control with his contract. Theriot makes the argument that the extra year will be a moot point all together.
What makes that argument so unusual is Bryant’s agent, Scott Boras, is notorious for getting his players to play out their contract before signing a big deal.
Bryant is still under team control for the next two seasons before becoming arbitration eligible.
Theriot played more than five seasons with the Cubs before finishing his career with the Dodgers, Cardinals, and Giants. Since retiring he has taken on a role with 104.5 ESPN in Baton Rouge.
