THE SKINNY

Justin Keuch passed for three touchdowns, Javier Montalvo ran for two and the Lincoln-Way West defense registered its second shutout in three weeks to win the SouthWest Suburban Red tussle in South Holland. The Warriors improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the conference. Thornwood fell to 1-3, 0-2.

TURNING POINT

On the opening possession of the game, the Thunderbirds went three and out from inside their own 10 and punted. That set Lincoln-Way West up at the Thornwood 40. Montalvo ran five straight times, capping the drive with a two-yard touchdown run and the Warriors never looked back, rolling out to a 27-0 halftime lead.

THE STAR

Montalvo left after two carries in week two and didn’t play last week with a bruised right wrist, but the senior running back returned to the lineup with vengeance, finishing with 26 carries for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He had 20 carries for 144 yards and both scores in the first half.

BY THE NUMBERS

Keuch was 8-for-18 for 83 yards. The senior tossed touchdown passes of 13 yards to Colin DuCray, six yards to Mason Mahoney, and 15 yards to Jake Robbins. Chase Starcevich added a 10-yard touchdown run. DaQuan Richie was 13-for-29 with an interception for 138 yards for Thornwood. Justin Smith added nine carries for 86 yards for the Thunderbirds, who were stopped on three different trips inside the Warrior 20.

QUOTABLE

“I felt like I was missing out on everything the last two weeks. I wanted to be out there for my team.” — Montalvo.
