A Woodstock man has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender in the northwestern suburb.

Corion V. Simpson, 20, has been charged with one count of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony, according to a statement from Woodstock police.

Simpson, of the 300 block of Leah Lane in Woodstock, registered with the Woodstock Police Department as a sexual predator on Dec. 1, but failed to tell authorities that he maintained and used a social media account, which he is required to do, police said.

On Dec. 17, detectives found a social media page that Simpson used on numerous occasions, which included the posting of photographs of himself and text communications to various people, police said.

Simpson has been ordered held at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility on a $20,000 bond, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
