Scott Weiland, once the frontman for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver has died. He was 48.
The news was confirmed early today on Mr. Weiland’s Facebook page after Internet reports began swirling late last night. The singer was on tour with his latest band, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts.
Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.
Mr.Weiland was found unresponsive in a “recreational motor vehicle,” by Bloomington police, according to a report on Billboard.com:
The Bloomington, Minn. Police Department issued a statement at 11:15 p.m. PT detailing the events as such: On Dec. 3rd at 8:22 p.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male in a recreational motor vehicle located in the 2200 block of Killebrew Drive. Officers arrived and determined the adult male was deceased, read the release, which did not identify the deceased. The address seems to correspond to a local Country Inn & Suites hotel. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will continue investigating the death with updates to come. Weiland turned 48 on Oct. 27. He long suffered from substance abuse issues.
The Stone Temple Pilots were known for hard rock hits such as “Interstate Love Song,” ”Plush” and “Vasoline.” Mr. Weiland’s hits with Velvet Revolver (formed in 2002 with guitarist Slash, drummer Matt Sorum, guitarist Dave Kusher and bassist Duff McKagan) included “Fall to Pieces” and “Slither.”
