Sen. Harry Reid, R-Nevada, wasn’t trying to make a fashion statement on Tuesday when he returned to the Senate sporting a pair of dark sunglasses. They were totally utilitarian.

Reid, whose accident with some exercise equipment on New Year’s Day has been well documented, recently had surgery to repair damage to his eye.

Previously, Reid has appeared in public bruised and bandaged, but is now on the mend, as he led a press conference on the status of a Department of Homeland Security funding measure.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is offering to allow a vote on legislation to fund homeland security, with some restrictions.

And because something like this couldn’t go unnoticed with Twitter jokes:

Overall, Reid’s new look was well documented:

But really, in a “who wore it better” contest, Reid can’t even compete with Vice President Joe Biden.
