Veteran safety Antrel Rolle will be visiting the Bears, who are looking to make upgrades on defense after the two worst seasons in franchise history.
A deal could happen as soon as Rolle arrives at Halas Hall. He posted a picture on Instagram of himself on a plane on Tuesday.
Rolle, who is 32, is an 11-year veteran and was named second-team All-Pro twice (2010 and 2013). Rolle’s hard-hitting ways would fit the mold of safety that defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and defensive backs coach Ed Donatell covet.
Rolle spent the last five seasons with the New York Giants and didn’t miss a start. He had 87 tackles and three interceptions in 2014.

Safety is a top priority for the Bears in free agency, especially with this year’s draft class widely regarded as thin overall.
The Bears did have interest in Devin McCourty, who was this year’s top available safety, but he re-signed with the New England Patriots. The Buffalo Bills’ Da’Norris Searcy also was considered, but he signed with the Tennessee Titans, according to his agency.
The Bears only have three safeties under contract: Ryan Mundy, Brock Vereen and Anthony Walters. Chris Conte is a free agent and won’t be returning.
