Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, just isn’t good enough at “interpreting writing and humor,” and as a result pulled out of a scheduled cameo on “Parks and Recreation.”
That’s according to the show’s co-creator Mike Schur, who gave an interview with Hitfix about the series. The final episode aired last week.
While major players such as former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California, Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, made cameos, Paul was also scheduled to appear on the show, but got cold feet at the last minute.
And you can blame Ron Swanson.
We also wanted Rand Paul to be in the Washington episode, and he agreed, but then bailed at the eleventh hour. I think he thought we were making fun of him, or something, which we were not, at all. We were in fact flattering him, by linking him to Ron. I get the sense that maybe interpreting writing and humor is not his strong suit.
Paul is known for his quick zingers on Twitter and has played the role of “DJ Rand Paul” multiple times and even embraced a “Saturday Night Live” skit.

Apparently Paul doesn’t think all comedic roles on television would translate.
Hillary Clinton, one of Leslie Knope’s favorite people also was missing in the final season, but Schur said it had nothing to do with Clinton pulling a Rand Paul.
“That became impossible once we jumped to 2017, because we would’ve had to have answered a question that she probably wouldn’t have wanted us to even pose at this point,” Schur said.
