Kitchen fire leaves Aurora home uninhabitable

A kitchen fire Monday night in west suburban Aurora has left a home uninhabitable.

Firefighters responded to the single-family home in the 1400 block of Creek Avenue in Aurora at 8:20 p.m., according to a statement from the Aurora fire department.

They found a fire in the kitchen, where the home’s resident said she had been cooking, according to the statement.

Six companies fought the blaze, which was bought under control in about 20 minutes, according to the statement. No one was hurt.

Damage to the structure is estimated at $15,000, and the home was left uninhabitable, according to the statement.

The fire department’s arson team is investigating, but the blaze is thought to have begun while the resident was cooking.

The city of Aurora’s Victim Services is helping her find alternate housing.
