A man who allegedly shot a woman to death before turning the gun on himself earlier this month in the South Side Chatham neighborhood has been identified.

A family member found 27-year-old Erica D. Blackman and 42-year-old Michael Leonard dead with gunshot wounds about 12:45 a.m. May 1 in the 8000 block of South Princeton, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found that Blackman, who lived in the same block, died from a shotgun wound to the left arm, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Leonard, who lived at the same address, died of an intra-oral gunshot wound and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Area South detectives are investigating the incident as a domestic-related murder-suicide.
