A north suburban man has been charged with burglarizing the homes of his neighbors in Vernon Hills.
Jason D. Chapa, 31, is charged with two counts of residential burglary and two counts of theft, all felonies, according to a statement from Vernon Hills police.
On May 1, a resident in the 200 block of Chesapeake Court discovered that a bicycle and golf clubs had been stolen from his garage, police said. On May 7, someone stole several computers and a toolbox from a home in the 1000 block of Hayes Court.
Police used a program on one of the stolen computers to track its location to a home in the 1000 block of Cumberland Court, not far from the reported robberies.
On May 9, officers searched Chapa’s home on that block and found the stolen items, police said.
They also discovered radar detectors, power tools, hand tools, bicycles, golf clubs, brass musical instruments, computers and a wheelchair. Anyone who lives in the area and is missing these items is asked to call police at (847) 362-4449.
Chapa is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $200,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court June 3.
