SHARE Police warn of Austin robberies

Police are warning residents about a series of robberies targeting lone female victims reported this month in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

In each reported incident, the suspect has approached a lone female, pushed her down to the ground and taken her property, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The robberies occurred:

  • In the 100 block of North Parkside about 1:20 a.m. May 5;
  • In the 400 block of North Parkside about 11 a.m. May 8;
  • In the 300 block of North Austin about 2 a.m. May 27.

The suspect is described as a black male between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-10 and weighing 150 to 220 pounds, police said. He has black hair, a medium complexion and was armed with a handgun in one of the robberies.
