A man was shot in the wrist while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Monday on the South Side.

The man, either 23 or 24 years old, was driving a black Chevrolet Suburban on I-90/94 near 31st Street when shots rang out about 2:50 a.m., according to Illinois State Police.

He was shot in the wrist and drove himself to Mercy Hospital, where staff notified police about half an hour later.

The outbound lanes of the expressway were closed for about 30 minutes for the investigation, but reopened by 5 a.m., police said.
