Everyone has their own pregame rituals for getting excited before they play. Bulls rookie Bobby Portis uses a rather unusual trick to make sure he is ready.

Portis is becoming known for his intense on-court stares and aggressive style of play. But just about anyone would be acting like that if they had the same thought in the back of their head. In a recent profile of the rookie done by Comcast SPORTSNET, Portis said he envisions a rather viscous scenario – his own mother getting hit.

Whatever the reason, Portis is playing well after taking on a bigger role with the team of late. Over the last 10 games, Portis is averaging more than 20 minutes a game. During that same stretch, he’s averaged 9.5 points per game and seven rebounds.

With Joakim Noah still sidelined with an injury, Portis has taken over the role of energy provider for the Bulls. The emergence of Portis is making it seem as if a trade involving Noah could be more likely.
