Bond was denied Tuesday for a 32-year-old man charged with fatally shooting an 18-year-old man Sunday night in south suburban Sauk Village.
Steven Poppo faces first-degree murder charges for the 7 p.m. attack in the near his home in the 22500 block of Nichols Drive, according to Sauk Village police and Cook County Circuit Court records.
Gerald Fortson and another person had driven there to meet Poppo, and they got into an argument that ended with Poppo shooting the younger man, police allege.
Fortson’s companion drove him away, and they called for help in the 22200 block of Torrence Avenue, police said.
Fortson was then taken to St. Margaret Health Center in Dyer, Indiana, where he was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m., according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office. He lived in the 17500 block of Maple Street in Lansing.
Poppo was arrested Monday after police searched his Nichols Drive home, authorities said. A judge ordered him held without bond at a Tuesday hearing. His next court date is Oct. 31.
