A man was fatally struck by a Metra train Thursday morning in northwest suburban Mount Prospect.

Inbound Union Pacific-Northwest train No. 608, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:17 a.m., hit a pedestrian at Northwest Highway and Louis Street in Mount Prospect about 7 a.m., according to Metra and Mount Prospect police.

Domenico Pierri, 32, was killed, according to police.

Police said Pierri, of the 7900 block Marina Drive in Des Plaines, intentionally entered walked onto the tracks in the path of the train.

UP-Northwest line trains experienced extensive delays after the crash, but no delays were being reported as of Thursday afternoon, according to Metra’s website.
