A convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning in northwest suburban Mount Prospect.

About 8:40 a.m., a man wearing a black mask walked into El Amigo Carniceria at 403 E. Euclid Ave. and pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded money, according to a statement from Mount Prospect police.

The cashier gave him an undisclosed amount of money before the robber ran out of the store, police said. He was seen driving away in a red or burgundy four-door car, possibly a Nissan Maxima. No one was injured, nor were any customers in the store at the time.

The suspect was described as a 5-foot-8, 200-pound black or Hispanic man, police said. He wore a black jacket, black winter hat, black mask covering the bottom half of his face and a light-colored shirt.
