A man is facing sexual abuse and public indecency charges for allegedly molesting a teenager at a northwest suburban mall, according to police.

Devonte K. Spiller, 18, was charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal sexual abuse and public indecency, according to Woodstock police.

Police were called to the mall at 110 S. Johnson St. in Woodstock about 7:15 p.m. Feb. 5 by the minor victim’s mother, who said the girl had been sexually abused by someone she knew, police said.

It happened in a less-traveled area of the mall near the bathrooms on the first floor, police said.

Responding officers took the victim to Centegra Hospital for examination and evidence collection, while detectives interviewed the victim and suspect.

Spiller was initially released, but an arrest warrant was issued last week and he was taken into custody at his apartment in the 700 block of Prairie View Lane in Woodstock, police said.

He was released after posting 10 percent of a $1,500 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court March 17 in Woodstock.
