Temporary lane closures are in effect Friday and Saturday on Touhy Avenue in northwest suburban Des Plaines as crews perform repairs on a Union Pacific railroad crossing.

Two westbound lanes of Touhy are closed at the crossing just west of Mount Prospect Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes through the area, IDOT said.
