A Whole Foods store is set to open Wednesday in Hyde Park.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel toured the store Tuesday, touting the jobs that it will create as well as Whole Foods’ commitment to be in all parts of the city, including one opening in Englewood later this year.
Englewood, unlike Hyde Park, is a “food desert,” the mayor said. Emanuel described the plans for a Whole Foods in Englewood as a positive step toward making healthy food accessible to everyone.
He also noted that the large chain buys some of its products from smaller, local businesses.
“Big business does not have to be a problem for small businesses,” Emanuel said.
