Every week of the 2015 Chicago Bears season, Chicago Sun-Times Sports will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1985 Bears by speaking with players from the team including Jimbo Covert, Dan Hampton, Dennis McKinnon and Otis Wilson.
Prior to the 1985 Chicago Bears season, four important players were holding out due to contract disputes — offensive tackle Keith Van Horne, linebackers Al Harris and Mike Singletary and safety Todd Bell.
Bell and Harris eventually decided to sit out the entire season, meaning they missed out on becoming part of Bears and NFL history.
1985 Bears players Dennis McKinnon and Dan Hampton shared their thoughts on the situation.
“Todd Bell was replaced by Dave Duerson and Al Harris was replaced by Wilber Marshall,” McKinnon said. “So we had two great players that replaced those guys.”
“I hated that Al and Todd missed out on that year, because here we are 30 years later still talking about it,” Hampton said.
