A South Chicago man, Michael Harper, 65, was ordered held on $500,000 bail Saturday, charged with stabbing a 17-year-old girl and her 19-year-old brother when they tried to break up an argument Thursday between Harper and their mother.

The police said Harper grabbed a knife and stabbed them — the daughter in the chest and the son in a leg — when they tried to intervene in the fight in the 8700 block of South Commercial Avenue. Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Harper’s charged with two counts each of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
